If you were in Australia over the past few weeks and you happened to turn on the TV or pick up a newspaper, no doubt you would have heard the name Scotty James more than a few times. Whilst you were enjoying the Aussie Summer, Scotty was in a very cold Korea representing Australia at the highest level in the 2018 Winter Olympics. Holding the Aussie flag and leading out the rest of the Australian team, Scotty made Australia proud. Most of Australia tuned in to support Scotty, embracing all those emotions as he competed in the Pipe, giving Australian’s the feeling of being right there on the slopes amongst the Korean snow.

Scotty left Australia, a bloke from Warrandyte, VIC and came home a hero, becoming an Aussie legend to all those Australians that followed his journey to Korea, where he snagged Bronze in Men’s Pipe.

To Volcom, Scotty has always been a hero and to show their gratitude to Scotty, whether they are Aussie, American or from anywhere in this extreme sports world – Volcom OZ and Easey Street Group put on a party to welcome back and congratulate Scotty in a way like no other. With Scotty’s family and friends on the guest list, along with Volcom family, you would have wished you were in Melbourne that night.

As you enter the Easey Street venue, you were greeted with a glass of celebratory champagne from a bar that didn’t go dry the whole night. Tasty local beers were supplied by Goose Island and even tastier burgers from Easyes, accompanied by the best potato gems I have ever sampled. Our senses were being treated. At this stage, Scotty was definitely the most popular man in the house, with everyone there wanting to get a hold of that Olympic Bronze medal. I can tell you it was more than impressive, it’s the real deal with some solid weight behind it. DSC_1953DSC_1957

As the night went on and those attending got merrier and merrier, Volcom’s Shane Azar had a few surprises in store for Scotty. DJ – Sean James put the music on hold and all turned to the big screen where a mix of absolute legends across all sports congratulated Scotty on his Bronze from abroad. Just watching Scotty’s reactions to the video showed you just how special it was to him, a very touching piece indeed. To keep the emotions going, Shane presented Scotty with a one of a kind custom ring, crafted right here in Melbourne by Adam from Broken Lock. Unlike the Bronze medal, it could be worn everyday as a memento of Scotty’s achievement. A toast was had in the form of a “Garry Ablett”, a popular drink with the Volcom Snow Team (shot of coffee slammed into a beer then skulled in one hit). And then the madness began.

The madness that is Barbarian… A metal band not from this century. Smoke, fire, blood sweat and some tears, a Barbarian show is like no other. If you were not Metal before the show, you are Metal now! The crowd participation was incredible, on what capped off an amazing night to celebrate an outstanding achievement by Scotty James.
