ASB MAGAZINE: World Champion and Pipe Master, Joel Parkinson, has just renewed a multiyear deal with long-time sponsor Billabong. The agreement, which allows Joel the flexibility to compete on the world stage or lead an ambassador’s role with projects like Billabong’s Adventure Division, cements a relationship that has lasted almost as long as Joel has been riding a surfboard.

“We’re stoked to have Joel continuing on as a key member of our team,” said Shannan North, Billabong Global President. “He’s not only one of surfing’s all-time greats but is like family to us. His contribution to Billabong as a brand and his influence on the rest of our teamriders can’t be understated. This is a chance to continue that relationship no matter how Joel’s career evolves in the coming years.”

“I’m so grateful that my life long partnership with Billabong is continuing. Billabong is like family to me and I am so honored to be apart of such an iconic Surf brand,” Joel Parkinson commented on the renewed partnership.

Joel is the embodiment of the “Homegrown” spirit. Queensland born, Parko honed his surfing skills on the points of the Gold Coast. Joel’s career with Billabong is one that spans a quarter century. He is a Two Time World Jr. Champion. He entered his first WCT event as a wildcard, and won Jeffrey’s Bay in 1999. In the years that followed Joel backed that up with 11 other WCT event wins. He is a 3-time Triple Crown winner; achieving a three peat in 2008-2010. In 2012 Joel achieved his boyhood dream winning the World Title and the Billabong Pipe Masters. His 25 year career with Billabong has seen him marry his high school sweetheart, raise three children and even start his own beer company, Balter Brewing Co. Starring in countless surf films, Parko has inspired generations of surfers with his smooth, effortless style. Billabong’s relationship with Joel started when he was 12 and we can’t wait to see where it will take us next.
