ASB MAGAZINE: @westsurfing_official today announced the first of their new limited edition relaunch range is now available and includes five sizes designed to cover small through extra-large surfers. The company is spearheaded by former ASP professional surfer and WA legend Mitch Thorson, who was a West sponsored surfer through his professional career, and later became a shareholder and the brands first global ambassador.
West was originally founded in 1982 by highly regarded local surfers, Patrick Leahy and Roger Liley. Together, they developed quality custom wetsuits made from market leading Japanese neoprene. According to Thorson development of West wetsuits continued under the direction of another world class local surfer, Paul Manners.
“Paul’s guidance through this transition further enhanced the design and evolution of the wetsuits and core credibility grew – and the Japanese partnership remains particularly strong,” said Thorson.
West was placed in voluntary administration industry in 2012.
These days, Patrick Leahy is still involved in Design and Production at another West Australian based wetsuit brand Volte wetsuits.
