ASB MAGAZINE:  THRILLS have pledged $11,644 to Australia’s first and only Indigenous youth climate network Seed through their involvement with 1% For The Planet. 1% for the Planet was created by Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard whose members commit to contribute at least one percent of their annual sales to environmental causes. Their mission is to build, support, and activate an alliance of businesses financially committed to creating a healthy planet.

In line with their mission to reduce their impact on the environment and inspire change, THRILLS Marketing Manager Nat Collins explained their 1% For The Planet contribution is a continuation of the company’s strong sustainability values while emphasising the importance of Indigenous voice.

“Protecting the planet has always been front-of-mind since our beginning over 10 years ago and we’re continuing to take all the steps we can both as a company and in our personal lives to reduce our impact,” he said.

“We’re extremely proud to be partnering with 1% for the Planet and Seed. Empowering the Indigenous youth of Australia is something that we’re very passionate about and we’re looking forward to a long-lasting relationship working with and contributing to Seeds efforts toward a better future.”

“With the help of our devoted customers, we were able to raise an incredible $11,644 through our last sustainable fabrics campaign, which we couldn’t be happier to donate to our new friends at Seed.”

Millie Telford, Seed’s National Director and proud Bundjalung woman, said THRILLS’ contribution is monumental and will assist their fight for climate justice.

“Seed builds the capacity of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities to gain skills and confidence in telling their story and leading our climate campaigns,” she said.

“Over the last five years, we’ve been organising and building the power of Aboriginal young people and communities across the Northern Territory who are leading the campaign to ban gas fracking and protect their land, water, culture and the climate.”

“It’s already been a huge year for the fracking campaign, with Origin pausing their fracking operations in the first half of 2020 and the NT election being a critical opportunity to put fracking front and centre of the political agenda. THRILLS’ donation will help us elevate the voices of Traditional Owners and Aboriginal communities in their call to ban fracking and invest in clean energy alternatives.”
