ASB MAGAZINE: Stance announced the addition of Daniel Ricciardo as its newest Punk & Poet, the brands’ ambassador collective that unites a diverse community of creative originals from around the world. The Australian professional racecar driver began his foray into his craft at just nine-years-old and has since earned a remarkable list of victories and achievements, solidifying himself as one of the most elite drivers on the grid.
As a brand that Ricciardo had already been wearing, and as a personality that Stance has long felt embodied its ethos, the relationship is a natural alignment between two partners that share similar passions of sport, art, music and design.
“Everyone knows he can drive, he’s one of the best drivers in the world right now. But what we love about Daniel is he is such a happy, positive person,” said Jeff Kearl, Founder and CEO of Stance. “He’s a true original, and we are excited to have him as part of our brand family.”
Founded in 2009, Stance’s uncommon approach to art and science quickly turned the overlooked category of socks into a fashion statement, while redefining expectations of what socks should feel like. Since then, the brand has applied that same approach to underwear and t-shirts and in the process has built legions of fans, one of which is Ricciardo.
“Stance genuinely reflects my lifestyle and the creativity of the brand is what drew me in, but the product quality is what got me hooked,” said Daniel Ricciardo. “The socks and underwear are next level in terms of comfort and fit, so being able to work with a brand that I already put on every day is going to be really fun.”
As a Punk & Poet, Daniel Ricciardo will have limited edition collaborative socks and underwear that will launch in 2019 and will be available at Stance.com and Stance retail stores. After it came to market in 2010, Stance quickly turned the overlooked category of socks into a fashion statement by breathing art and design into an unlikely canvas. As people began taking notice of how Stance was turning the category on its head on the fashion side, the company’s relentless focus on innovation and material science also began to earn the brand major recognition in the performance and sports worlds. The 9-year journey is marked with impressive milestones and multiple firsts for any brand, regardless of industry.
On the fashion and lifestyle side, Stance boasts an impressive list of projects and collaborations, especially in light of its relatively short history. They include having Rihanna as a contributing creative director who released 10 collections with the brand, as well as collaborations with brands like Maharishi, Neighborhood Japan, Libertine, New Balance, and Modernica. Additionally, projects with legendary cultural influences like Mark Gonzalez, TDE, and artists like Kevin Lyons and Mister Cartoon, provide a glimpse into the work that has made the brand a go-to choice for original thinkers and creatives.
On the performance side, Stance was the first brand to have its logo appear on any piece of the NBA’s official uniform. It was named the league’s on-court sock for the 2015 and 2016 seasons, and is still the official casual sock of the NBA. A year after the NBA designation, Stance was chosen as the official sock of Major League Baseball, and is currently worn on-field by every team in MLB. Its official status in sports leagues is complimented by numerous accolades and “best of” awards from running, training, outdoor, snow, and golf media outlets and industry leaders.
Quickly regarded as a must-have amongst cultural influencers and top athletes across multiple genres for its design aesthetic and innovative product, the company has also drawn an iconic group of personalities to its roster of ‘Punks & Poets,’ including skateboarders Nora Vasconcellos and Ishod Wair, fashion luminaries Ronnie Fieg and Aleali May, NBA legends and future legends including Allen Iverson, Dwyane Wade, James Harden, and Donovan Mitchell, MLB American League MVP Jose Altuve, two-time Masters Champion Bubba Watson, world-renowned mountaineer and photographer Jimmy Chin, Motocross champion Kenny Roczen, back-to-back World Surf League Champion John John Florence, Transworld Rider of the Year Louif Paradis, US track-and-field pioneer Lauren Fleshman, New York Jets Quarterback (and San Clemente native), Sam Darnold, and F1 Driver, Daniel Ricciardo.
