ASB MAGAZINE: Quiksilver is offering  40 spots on a first-come, first served basis to surf  with just 6 surfers at   iconic Uluwatu, Bali, Indonesia in the 7th annual Quiksilver Uluwatu Challenge Fundraiser on July 28th.  This year, Quiksilver will work closely with Uluwatu based NGO, Eco Surf Rescue Uluwatu and the local Uluwatu Boardriders to raise funds that will go towards new infrastructure at Uluwatu that will keep the world class wave clean and pristine for generations to come.

For just Rp 1 million ($70 USD) entry fee, the lucky 40+ surfers will get to paddle out and compete with Quiksilver legends including Mr Sunset – Jeff Hakman, 10 year world tour veteran, Matt Hoy, and the inventor of the modern day thruster surfboard, Simon Anderson.  Joining the international legends will be Bali legends that include Made Kasim, Ketut Menda, Made Switra, Made Lana, Tipi Jabrik, Dede Suryana and Rizal Tanjung for a total of 54 participants.

The Uluwatu Challenge will continue in the Eddie Aikau 6-person heat format, where each surfer competes in two heats and their two highest scores from their 4 best waves will then be scored and totaled.  The surfer with the highest two-wave score total (out of a possible 20 points, maximum of 10 points per wave) will be declared the winner of the event.

Previous winners have included World Tour veteran Fred Pattachia from Hawaii, Bali-based charger Tai “Buddha” Graham and local soul surfers, Made Switra and Tipi Jabrik…. With a stacked field of invitees including local rippers Darmayasa Blerong and young gun Ryuki Waida, the fight for the title is not to be missed.

Following the competition, the Single Fin bar will open up for a sunset party and host the awards presentation as the sun sets over the Indian Ocean.

Quiksilver South East Asia Sales and Marketing Executive, Sammy Gosling, is looking forward to another great Uluwatu Challenge this year, saying,

“Quiksilver is proud that we can bring our global team together with local legends and tourists to make a positive difference, it’s a great day out where the Bali surf community and industry can come together to help give back to a wave and island that gives so much.  Quiksilver recently announced that we have turned 100 million recycled plastic bottles into board shorts through our Repreve partnership, so it is great that we can continue to play our role to ensure we can help keep places like Uluwatu remain pristine for future generations.”
