Since the beginning of March the #CheersMick hashtag has grown from just a few mentions, to over 20,000 tags across Instagram, Facebook and Twitter… giving Mick Fanning one incredible send off. With so much of todays marketing being battled out on social media, we thought we'd undertake an analysis of the hashtag and try to quantify the impact of the campaign.


We reached out to social media tracking firm Keyhole to assist with the analytics of  one the most popular hashtags in recent memory. We also reached out to Rip Curl's marketing teams to dig deeper into the process.
